Josefa

“Josefa” pays tribute to all the women who took up arms to defend their people’s freedom. Often in the shadows, they carried the resistance and contributed to the victory for their nation’s self-determination. I was inspired by the Adelitas, the symbolic name given to the women who fought together in the Mexican Revolution

This piece is part of the Souveraines Collection, an invitation to reflect on the power, resilience, and universal beauty of women.

Created with a palette knife in oil, this artwork reveals expressive colors and textures, drawing inspiration from Mexican muralism, as well as the photographs and stories of Juan Rulfo.
